Who Makes the Cut?
It is 30 days before your wedding and you are filling out your photographer's form.
You are stuck on the form! Who should I include in my family photos?
Deciding which family members to include in the family photos can be overwhelming, especially when dealing with situations like second marriages or parents with significant others. First and foremost, don't stress!
Of course, the couple is the focal point on any wedding day, but family is also important.
Couples want those must-have wedding photos like the vows and the first look, but family photos are some of the most treasured.
First, Focus on your VIP's. Family and those that are special to you.
What if your parents are divorced or remarried?
You will want to arrange for pictures with the individual families first; they should be put at the top of your list. You as a couple should then have pictures taken with each parent, including their new partner. If there are step-siblings, they could be included as well.
Send the list to your photographer
Wedding photographers use the photo list to coordinate post-ceremony photos quickly.
Weddings are one of the few times all family members are in one place, and being prepared helps to save time. Send your photographer the family photo combinations you want to capture, giving each person's name and who they are. This will help move things along on the day of the wedding. The photographer can call them by name and always make the family have a more enjoyable experience. Each combination of photos takes anywhere from 60-90 seconds to set up and take. So plan on at least 20 minutes for family photos. It is recommended to do them before the ceremony!
The best way to take all the family photos is to inform everyone when you will be taking the photos, especially if you will be taking photos before the ceremony. It is helpful to have a family friend to help with organizing. It will save time! Socializing with friends during cocktail hour is important and memorable.

Just to name a few of our locally owned photographers that frequent our venue and are on our preferred vendors list: Shotz By Mira, Jayna Rosentreter Photography, and Mindy Stratton Photography.
